Five for Friday!

OhMyGoodness!  The end of the school year was crazy madness, trying to get everything done.  Even though I am not yet finished packing up my room {more on that later}, I wanted to get a post out on what we have been up to the past few weeks.  So, without further adieu here's my Five for Friday linky, offered by Doodle Bugs Teaching.
My pre-k students participated in a graduation program.  Their parents and family members came to watch them sing a few songs and receive their diplomas.  We then watched a program entitled 'Our Year in Pictures'.  I use Movie Maker.  It's the easiest to work with, I have found.
They did a wonderful job.  Everyone was very proud of them.
With graduation out of the way, the little ones were treated to 'water day'.  The weather wasn't exactly the warmest, but no one seemed to mind!
When the little ones weren't actually playing in the water, they were happily playing with paint and sidewalk chalk.
It was SO much FUN!
We managed to sneak a little learning into the mix, as well, with a baseball theme.
For fine motor fun, the little loves glued scrunched up pieces of red tissue paper to make the seams of a baseball.
Then, during learning time, they used baseball counters on 10 frames and compared numbers using more than and less than terminology to get them ready for kindergarten.

The last day of school was filled with saying good-bye to our friends…..
and enjoying some much needed time outside in the sun……
I'm really gonna miss these sweetie pies…..
Now, referring back to packing up my room,,,,
our Title One program has been moved to the elementary buildings, so I will be changing schools.  It is with a heavy heart that I say good-bye to my colleagues and some of my best friends.  I was given this plague several years back and I keep it on my desk as a reminder that I will be OK no matter what...
It has taken me a few months to get used to the idea, but I accept this challenge and look forward to a year of growth, learning new things, accepting change, making new friends and staying in touch with old friends.

Thanks for reading!  Have a great day.  :)

Nursery Rhymes: Second Verse!

It's time to showcase our week with Doodle Bugs Teaching's 'Five for Friday' weekly linky.

We continued our Nursery Rhyme theme.  This week we focused on Hey Diddle Diddle, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Humpty Dumpty, and Jack and Jill.
For our Humpty Dumpty activities, we re-enacted the rhyme with the help of these props.
The little ones loved recreating the rhyme over and over.
Then we went to work recreating the rhyme on paper.
First, the loves colored the brick wall for some good fine motor work, plus trying to stay in a confined space while coloring.
Then, then after cutting out Humpty, they glued the pieces on construction paper.

For Baa, Baa Black Sheep, the little ones were so excited to use liquid glue.  It cracks me up to see how much they LOVE squeezing the glue.  We practice saying "dot, dot, not a lot", but sometimes they just can't help themselves.
Besides squeezing the glue, by scrunching the tissue paper, it added another good fine motor element.
During circle time, we practiced sorting, counting, comparing numbers, and patterning with different colored sheep counters and ice cube trays.
I always love it when I can sneak a little learning into the fun!
'Hey Diddle Diddle' was our next rhyme of the week…
This art project had LOTS of pieces.  The little learners had to do a lot of listening and following directions to complete the craft.
But, it was worth it because they were so proud of their accomplishment when they finished!
I think they turned out ADORABLE!
Last week, we learned the nursery rhyme 'Jack Be Nimble'.  This week, we completed the page that will go in our take-home book.
For 'Jack and Jill', we sequenced the story with pictures on a sentence strip.  The little ones practiced re-telling the story, then took them home to do the same.  I found the 3 step sequencing pictures from Kate over at Fun in ECSE.  She has a great freebie pack on TpT.  You can find it HERE. This was perfect for my morning learners.
In the afternoon, I used a harder 5-step picture sequencing activities, which was also a freebie on TpT from 'Sunny and Bright in First Grade'.  You can find it HERE.
Unfortunately, I did not snap any photos of this activity.  :(

Thanks for reading!  Have a great day.  :)
